Secret Protein Powder Cookie Dough
We use vanilla grass-fed whey protein powder to give this protein cookie dough an extra protein punch! Clean Simple Eats protein powder is my jaaaaaaam! It’s the best protein powder I’ve ever had and everyone I have try it says the same thing. I’ve given samples of this protein powder to friends and family and they all start using it regularly because they love it so much. So it’s safe to say it’s truly the best. It blends nicely and isn’t grainy or chalky. I use it in all of my baked oatmeal recipes too! If you need some amazing healthy, meal-prepped breakfasts, I highly recommend checking out my Birthday Cake Baked Oatmeal or my S’mores Baked Oatmeal Flavor!!! So. dang. good.

Protein Cookie Dough Recipe
You might be wondering, “Can I add protein powder to cookie dough?” The simple answer I would give you is no. Regular cookie dough has raw eggs and flour which are not necessarily safe to eat raw. However, this specific protein cookie dough recipe is completely different than your run-of-the-mill cookie dough. Not only is it safe to eat raw, but it has WAY BETTER ingredients for you than regular cookie dough. I’m talking no refined sugar or flour.
This protein cookie dough is so simple to make and hits the spot when you don’t feel like baking anything because it’s a no-bake recipe! You can easily substitute any of the ingredients to fit your dietary needs. Here are the ingredients you’ll need for this edible protein cookie dough, plus the easy substitutes to make if you’re vegan, paleo, or nut-free!
- Flax Egg- Loaded with vitamins and rich in fiber!
- Cashew Butter- Cashew butter makes this protein cookie dough taste like the real deal! You can use code “shh20” for FREE SHIPPING at georgiagrinders.com for my favorite freshly ground cashew butter! Feel free to sub any nut or seed butter here.
- Water- Does this even count as an ingredient? If you can’t find any water lying around, you can use any milk.
- Honey – is packed with antioxidants and minerals! Read more about the benefits of honey here. You can swap in pure maple syrup, coconut nectar, brown rice syrup, or a sticky sweetener of choice.
- Oat Flour- Just follow my easy 3 step process to making oat flour at home for cheap! Substitutions: cashew flour or almond flour (here are more healthy flour alternatives too).
- Pink Himalayan Salt- rich in minerals and less processed than table salt. Read more about the benefits of pink salt here.
- Dairy-Free Dark Chocolate Chips- Here are my favorite clean chocolate brands. Paleo chocolate, dairy-free chocolate, and keto chocolate.

Protein Powder Options:
I’ve tried this recipe omitting all protein powder addins and the cookie dough still comes out wonderfully! I’ve also made it using both whey and collagen and just collagen. All options are great! See note 2 for more protein powder suggestions.
- My favorite vanilla grass-fed whey protein powder (Code “CLAIRE” for discount)
- Unflavored Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder- High in protein and flavorless! Here is the affordable brand I use (I buy in bulk to save money $).
- Collagen Peptides Powder- promotes healthy hair, skin, nails, and joint strength. Here is the amazing brand I use! Also completely flavorless! It’s like magic.

Edible Protein Cookie Dough
This cookie dough is completely safe to eat because we don’t use any raw eggs or flour! We use one flax egg which adds extra fiber and allows our cookie dough to hold together. I use this same trick in my Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Bars and my Almond Butter Chocolate Bars! Oat flour is the “flour” we use. And oats are completely safe to eat raw! YAY!
How to Freeze Protein Cookie Dough
Just like all of my Protein Ball recipes (lemon, peanut butter chocolate, almond joy), this protein cookie dough is AMAZING straight out of the freezer. Since we use Clean Simple Eats Vanilla Protein Powder, (one of my favorite protein powders to use in my Peanut Butter Protein Bars too), this protein cookie dough stays chewy even when frozen! It’s unbelievable! It’s not rock hard and it won’t break your teeth if you eat it straight from the freezer. Another reason to love this protein cookie dough recipe. Just keep it in the freezer for a perfect healthy pre-workout snack or after-dinner clean-eating healthy dessert!
- Place protein cookie dough in an airtight container or zip-lock bag.
- Store in the freezer for 4 months or longer!

Protein Cookie Dough (Easy + Gluten-Free + 5 Minute Recipe)
This healthy edible protein cookie dough is all you’ve ever dreamed of! It's gluten-free and has a vegan, paleo, and nut-free option. This easy 5-minute recipe makes the perfect pre-workout snack or clean-eating dessert.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 Flax Egg (1 Tbs. ground flax + 2 Tbs. water)
- ¾ Cup Cashew Butter (can sub any nut or seed butter) (code "shh20" for free shipping)
- 3 Tbs. Water (plus more if needed)
- 2-4 Tbs. Honey or Pure Maple Syrup (+ more to taste)
- 1 Cup Oat Flour, Cashew Flour, or Almond Flour
- ½ Cup (or 1½ scoops) Vanilla Protein Powder (I use Clean Simple Eats Simple Vanilla. Code "CLAIRE" for a discount!)
- ¼ Cup Dairy-Free Dark Chocolate Chips
Instructions
1. In a small bowl, make your flax egg and set aside to thicken 3-5 minutes.
2. In a medium bowl or stand mixer, add the cashew butter, water, honey, and thickened flax egg. Mix until smooth (I like using an electric mixer to do this). Add in the oat flour and protein powder. Mix until well combined and a cookie dough forms. If the mixture is too dry, add in splashes of water and mix until it reaches a cookie dough consistency. Fold in the chocolate chips.
3. Enjoy right away or form into balls. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or freeze for 4 months or longer.
Notes
- Dough Consistency: All protein powders absorb a different amount of moisture. If your protein ball dough is too dry, add a little more water. If it’s too wet, add a little more oat flour until you have the desired consistency.
- Protein Powder: Every protein powder is different in sweetness too, so adjust the honey or maple syrup to fit your taste. You can also omit all protein powder and add more oat flour or flour of your choice. Or swap the protein powder for unflavored collagen.
