Chapter 9 : <Outside.> - Story I Was Reborn, So I Chose To Become A Reaper. [Discontinued] (2024)

As we were making our way toward the entrance, I saw many different Adventurers and Species.

There were Beast-Kin, Humans, Dwarves and Elves. A typical 'Fantasy' selection from whichever world [Otherworldly Intellect] came from. Many of them were staring at me, probably because Ravens usually didn't have blue streaks or a smoky tail.

I looked at the crowded entrance of the Dungeon, comparing it to my experience where I literally met almost no one.

Perched on Reina's shoulder, I surveyed my surroundings.

The Entrance was worn down, most likely due to the packed crowd. It looked like a cave Entrance and it was basically a bottleneck to the outside and the inside.

The stone bricks were all the same, but outside was a large plain of grass with a dirt road stretching into the unknown. Many Merchant carts were stationed there and you could see people riding in horse-drawn carriages on the road.

We approached a nearby Coach and Reina rummaged her hand in her bag, taking out 3 Copper Coins and handing them over to the Driver. He eyed me suspiciously, but let us onto the carriage.

{Coach}
"To the city, I presume?"

{Reina}
"Yes, please."

He lightly tugged the Reins and the Horse started trotting.

I looked at Reina, and watched her sitting on hard wood when on a bumpy road. That doesn't look too good for her back at all...

However, contrary to my belief, Reina looked completely comfortable. I guess it's fine then.

Oh, I should probably use [Conceal Status]...

The road wasn't that long, I could already see the city from the carriage even though it had been only 5 or so minutes since we departed on the ride.

I saw a few cow-looking creatures grazing on the grass, but no one seemed to be taking care of them.

{Drakka->Reina}
Hey, you see those things eating the grass?

{Reina->Drakka}
Hm? You mean those Cantle?

{Drakka->Reina}
... Oh, What do you usually do with the, uh, Cantle.

{Reina->Drakka}
Well, we usually eat their meat or drink their milk, but that's only for the livestock... The wild ones are far more dangerous than the livestock as their levels are much higher.

{Drakka->Reina}
Ah, I see. So what do you do with the wild ones?

{Reina->Drakka}
Well, they're very territorial, and if they create a territory in or near a road or city, Adventurers usually subjugate them.

{Drakka->Reina}
Ah, okay...

I watched the Cantle quietly eat their grass. Kinda hard to imagine that, once you enter their range, they would try and trample over you.

{Drakka->Reina}
Oh, by the way, what got you into... whatever situation you're in?

{Reina->Drakka}
Uh... I borrowed money from a nice looking guy to get enough for the Adventurer's registration fee, but it appears he was actually a meanie...

{Drakka->Reina}
So you couldn't pay it back and you were used?

{Reina-Drakka}
I mean... I could have just beat him up, but he's important and a lot more stronger...

{Drakka->Reina}
Hm... I see, what's their name?

{Reina->Drakka}
Um... I dunno...

Well, that makes things a bit harder.

{Drakka->Reina}
Wait, so you're gonna be hunted by them, right?

{Reina->Drakka}
Um... I guess...

Well, that makes things a bit easier.

The horse slowly trotted on the road. The barrier gate between the city and the road was already growing close. We gradually came to a stop, and Reina (with me on her shoulder) stepped off the carriage.

She walked into a long queue of people, and eventually made her way to the front.

A guard was slumped on his chair, looking absolutely wasted and exhausted.

His eyelids sluggishly opened, and he rubbed his eyes in attempt to stay awake.

He looked at Reina, but he didn't even glance at me.

{Guard}
"So... Just one little miss?"

Oh, I think he didn't notice me.

{Reina}
"Um... What about the Wrai-...ven?"

{Guard}
"Hm?"

{Reina}
"I-I mean Raven!"

{Guard}
"Yeah, I know. Yer suddenly repeated 'Raven' again, y'alright little miss?

{Reina}
"Um... Yes..."

{Guard}
"Alrighty then... Yer seem like an Adventurer, but yer don't have a token?"

{Reina}
"Yes... I still need to apply for the job..."

{Guard}
"Alright, sorry little miss, but I'll have to take 5 copper coins from yer."

Reina took out 5 copper coins and placed them on the counter.

{Guard}
"Well, yer can go in now. On ya go, I don't have all day yer know?"

{Reina}
"Th-thank you..."

Reina politely bowed, and she walked in through the gates.

The streets of the city was a similar sight to the Dungeon Entrance. They were crowded, but much more vibrant and lively than the boring gray stone bricks which I had almost grown accustomed to.

Reina walked quietly on the streets, perking her ears up at every sound. She walked through the twists and turns, and eventually ended up in a back alley behind a deserted street.

Immediately, I picked up around 7-10 presences surrounding and closing in on us. One of them was especially large, and they seemed like a problem for me.

Well, for now of course.

2 of them stepped out and into our sights in front of us. Another 2 behind us as well.

One of the Thugs in front walked forward and went straight up to Reina, towering over her short physique. I felt greedy stares directed at me, and the Thugs in front of us was also snickering.

{Thug.1}
"So you got a li'l birdy, huh?"

Reina didn't respond, and only glared at them in frustration.

{Thug.1}
"Alright, hand it over."

{Reina}
"..."

{Thug.1]
"I said hand it over. Now."

{Reina}
"I refuse."

{Thug.1}
"Hm? I'm sorry, would you like to repeat what you just said?"

The Thug put his hand on the hilt of his sword. The other Thugs revealed themselves and surrounded us, clogging up the back alley.

The Thug Boss was in view, and so were all of the subordinates, other than a few archers. Who were further away.

{Thug Boss}
"Ya really refused, huh. Ya have to pay back what ya took in some way, kid."

{Reina}
"..."

{Reina->Drakka}
Is this what you wanted?

{Drakka->Reina}
...Damn, you got me. I didn't think you would figure out my 'plans' so soon.

{Reina-Drakka}
Isn't it obvious that you were going to do this? Just go ahead already...

{Drakka->Reina}
Alright, Alright.

Cancelling my Transformation, my body burst outwards, surrounding Reina as a protective barrier.

{Thug Boss}
"Hey, what'cha think ya doin'!?!"

The Thugs all backed away, confused of what I just did. I slowly revealed my form.

My hood, arms, eyes and mouth all appeared. I summoned 2 [Reaping Scythe]s and grasped them in my hands.

{Thug}
"Wh-what the hell is that?!?"

I activated [Menace], glaring at each and every one of them. They shuddered, but unsheathed their weapons, most likely from experience.
